COLORING BOOK · AGES 4–6

Big Feelings

Three calm-down moments, colored by you

Cover coloring illustration

Pure black 2pt line-art only, no shading, no fills. A young child (around age 5) standing centered, holding a large heart in their hands, smiling softly. Decorative frame around them with simple shapes (a sun, a small cloud, three little stars, two leaves) that the child can also color. Round friendly face, large eyes, visible cheek shape. Plenty of generous white space inside every shape so a 4–6-year-old can color with chunky crayons.

STRATEGY 1

Breathe in, breathe out

Trace each finger slowly. Breathe in going up. Breathe out going down.

Coloring page · five-finger breathing

Pure black 2pt line-art on white. Large open hand outlined in the center of the page, fingers spread wide, palm facing the viewer. Each finger has a tiny dotted-line arrow going up one side and down the other (showing the breathing path). Around the hand, simple shapes the child can color: 5 small flowers, 3 little hearts, 2 simple stars. Plenty of unfilled space. No shading, no patterns inside the hand — just the outline so the child can color it however they want.

STRATEGY 2

Big squeeze

Wrap your arms around yourself. Squeeze, then let go. Try it three times.

Coloring page · self-hug

Pure black 2pt line-art on white. A child seated cross-legged, eyes gently closed, arms wrapped around their own shoulders in a butterfly hug. Soft smile. Visible cheek shape. Hair shown in a simple texture (curly, straight, or braids — pick one that reads neutral). Around them, simple shapes the child can color: two clouds, three little stars, a small flower at each side. Lots of open space. No shading, no internal patterns — just the outline.

STRATEGY 3

My calm spot

Where do you feel safe and quiet? Color a calm spot just for you.

Coloring page · cozy corner

Pure black 2pt line-art on white. A small cozy corner: a fluffy floor cushion on a simple rug, two oversized pillows piled up against a wall, a small lamp with a soft round shade, and an open picture book lying flat. A blanket draped softly over one pillow. Empty space where a child could be sitting (so the colorer can add themselves). Window in the background with a moon and three little stars. All shapes have generous unfilled interiors. No shading.

NOTE FOR GROWN-UPS

Coloring slows the body. While your child colors, name what you see them doing: "You're breathing slowly. I see your shoulders dropping." Children borrow our calm before they make their own.

The three strategies in this book — slow breath, self-hug, and a calm spot — are practiced when feelings are small, so they're available when feelings are big.
